GIVING BACK TO FENNIMORE (OUR LEGACY)

William Marsden and Dwight Parker created legacies for the people of Fennimore in the early twentieth century. Later, major fund drives were conducted for the Good Samaritan Center and Plattner Clinic. The people of Fennimore came through in big ways! MANY other activities have taken place to meet the needs of the people and organizations over the years. All of us, those in and around the area, and those who have enjoyed good years here but now live away can give back to Fennimore with small or large contributions. In addition to giving directly to specific groups or causes, three tax deductible, 501c3 organizations exist in Fennimore as mechanisms for giving and legacies – the Fennimore Area Foundation, Fennimore Scholarship Foundation, and Fennimore Area Health Services Foundation. Brief explanations of each are found here with information about contacting or giving.

Fennimore Area Foundation

The Fennimore Area Foundation is pleased to announce its semi-annual application period for awarding grants in Spring 2010. In making this offering, the Foundation is interested in providing assistance to groups, projects or activities promoting community wellness, services to or facilities for Fennimore's children or other endeavors falling within its charitable mission. Total funds to be granted will be up to $2,500 to one recipient or divided among any number of recipients.

The Fennimore Area Foundation will not fund the following: individual travel expenses or seminars; salaries, wages, benefits or other employee related costs; recurring expenses, except "start-up costs"; operating expenses including staff, rent payments, lease payments, and utilities; participation in capital campaigns or endowment funds; political causes, candidates and lobbying efforts; individuals, including scholarships and personal benefits; debt incurred or purchases made prior to grant award notification.

Because the Foundation is a non-profit organization, grant awards must follow certain guidelines. Applicants receiving awards will be expected to submit a brief report or summary of the completed or on-going project or activity receiving a grant within six months of its receipt. The Foundation sees part of its purpose being an incubator of community-wide participation in making Fennimore a better place to live, work and play. When ideas or visions focused on this goal require nurturing, the Foundation sees itself as a source for assistance to the extent it can assist.

To be considered, applications must be received by the Foundation or postmarked no later than May 19, 2010. Those interested in submitting a grant application are invited to complete the attached form and mail it to Fennimore Area Foundation (FAF), P.O. Box 134, Fennimore, WI 53809. Prospective applicants not yet prepared to make a grant request are hereby advised that grant periods are expected to be announced semi-annually. Good luck!
