Blue Ribbon Committee -- Lincoln Avenue Street Project
Meeting Update
Minutes of Blue Ribbon Committee Meeting
City of Fennimore, Grant County, Wisconsin
Held on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, Beginning at Noon
Present were: Denise Tolzman, Linda Parrish, Pam Kreul, Correne Morgan, Steve Lendosky, John Murphy and Margaret Sprague. Absent: Karla Witzig.
The committee discussed recent plans to restrict parking on Madison Street between 4th and 12th Streets on the west side to improve traffic safety when school begins. The latest information is that there will be "No Parking from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on School Days" signs posted. The School is working to communicate recommended drop off and pick up locations to parents to ensure safety of the students. The Fennimore Times and WGLR Radio will assist in getting the word out. The matter came up during the August 16th public information meeting related to the construction project. The City Council and School Board are supportive of the planned parking restriction. Local businesses are being asked for input and are generally supportive as well. A list of businesses affected was discussed. Committee members were assigned specific businesses to contact.
Signs for the road project continue to need repairs and repositioning. The August rains/wind have been hard on the signs. Steve is still waiting for a final bill from Signs To Go. At the conclusion of the project, the wood from the signs will be used to build a sign to be used for promotional purposes at the City ball diamond.
There is a balance of $2,314.10 in the Road Project Account with the Fennimore Area Foundation. It includes approx. $2,000 profit from the Jack Hammer Party.
The Dance Classes fund raiser will begin on October 21st. Chairperson Karla Witzig has no reservations yet. The deadline to sign up is October 7th.
A Wine and Cheese Tasting Event was discussed. John Murphy will talk to Darlene Carl about scheduling one for October 7th from 2-5 p.m. It will be modeled after the one she has scheduled for Sept. 8th as another fund raiser for the Blue Ribbon Committee.
Discussion on sponsoring a "Road Opening" party this fall was held. Steve Lendosky asked that someone else on the committee chair the event. With the recent rains an early completion of the project in not likely. We would like to schedule the event in October if possible.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at noon.
