A-1 Excavating, Inc. has recently made tremendous progress on Fennimore's road construction project. All underground water mains on Lincoln Avenue from 12th Street to the south city limits are now in. Gravel is now in place on 16th Street allowing west bound traffic off Madison and Monroe Street. Traffic on the sixteen hundred block between Madison Street and Lincoln Avenue is still under construction and is not open for traffic.
Work also taking place last week included the widening of intersections at 12th Street and 4th Street and Washington Street. Washington Street will be an official detour route during the stage four of road construction, which will not begin until late July.
A-1 Excavating has brought in a third crew this week to work on the project. Crews will continue to work on underground utilities. Traffic is reminded it is impossible to travel on South Lincoln Avenue; your cooperation will help keep the road construction project on schedule.
WisDOT project engineer, Jeremy Krachey, anticipates the paving crew will begin replacing pavement the week of May 14. Keep in mind this is only the first step, traffic will not be allowed to use the road until curb and gutter and driveway improvements are completed.
The public is cautioned to stay out of construction areas. Since construction began there have been a few occurrences when drivers of vehicles have moved barricades and attempted to travel through construction areas. Vehicles have become stuck which has resulted in traffic tickets being issued, a wrecker call and possible damage to vehicles which may not be covered by insurance. Also keep in mind traffic tickets double if a vehicle is found in a construction area when workers are present.
Due to low attendance at the public meetings, the WisDOT project engineer Jeremy Krachey announced public information meetings will be held once a month. The next two public information meetings are scheduled for May 14 and June 11. The meetings are held at the Fennimore Memorial building 860 Lincoln Avenue starting at 5 p.m. This meeting is open to the public and especially those residents and businesses affected by the current portion of road construction.
Those having questions are encouraged to stop by the WisDOT field office located at 1030 Lincoln Avenue or call 608-822-3992.
