Construction Update

Submitted by Linda Parrish, Promotions Coordinator 608-822-3599, Toll Free 800-822-1131

Fennimore's Stage Two Road Construction zone which is South City Limits to 12th Street is running about a week ahead of schedule and is expected to be completed between June 22 to 25.

All sidewalks were completed last week. Projects scheduled to take place the week of June 11 include back filling black dirt for landscaping between curb and sidewalks, placing of sod and new seeding. The material has now arrived so colored crosswalks will be poured the week of June 11. For this reason the streets between 12th and 13th Streets will closed to residents living in that area so this pavement can cure. The crew began installing new street lights the first week of June; they anticipate all street lights will be completed the week of June 22. Street painters are expected to be in Fennimore on June 21.

The stage 3 detour could begin on Friday, June 22 or Monday, June 25. Mathy Construction is scheduled to begin stage three on Monday, June 25. Stage three will consist of grinding off road surface just east of the 12th and Lincoln Avenue intersection then east to Marsden Park Road. The detour route for stage three for Hwy 18 east bound traffic will be U. S Hwy 61 South to Cty Hwy E and Cty Hwy F and back to US Hwy 18. Local traffic will be able to use side streets to access business and residential areas on Fennimore's east side. Phase three is expected to last about 2 ½ weeks.

Sometime between June 20 and 22 the stop signs will also be switched at Washington and 10th Street; please note east and west bound traffic stop will now stop. The early conversion of stop signs is planned so residents can get use to the change before the actual state 4 detour begins later in July.

Sometime between June 25 and July 2 the new pavement will be laid on the 16th Street project and Washington Street.

All construction crews will be off between July 3 and July 8. However the stage 3 detour will begin June 22 and will remain closed until the project is completed. Shortly after July 9 there will be flag persons directing traffic at the junctions of 12th and Lincoln Avenue. There will be some temporary congestion at this junction as the crew ties in the new underground storm sewer.

The next public meeting called by WisDOT project engineer Jeremy Krachey will be held Monday June 18 (note date change). The meeting will be held at the Fennimore Memorial building 860 Lincoln Avenue starting at 5 p.m. This meeting is open to the public and especially those residents and businesses affected by the current portion of road construction. Krachey is available at the WisDOT field office located at 1030 Lincoln Avenue or call 608-822-3992.
