Construction Update

June 15, 2007

Submitted by Linda Parrish, Promotions Coordinator 608-822-3599, Toll Free 800-822-1131

All work on US 61 Stage two from 12th street to the south City limits is expected to be complete by June 23. The only exception will be the final lift of asphalt on 16th street, which will be completed in early July.

Recent projects include new street lights between 12th and south city limits have been installed and are now in use. Projects planned during the week of June 18 include landscaping and signage which should be done by Wednesday June 20 and painting of center lines will be completed by Friday, June 22.

The WI DOT will be switching US 18 traffic over to the Stage three detour on June 23 or June 25 (dependent on weather]. Thanks to the cooperation all construction companies involved, area residents and great weather the project is ahead of schedule by approximately two weeks. The original timeline reported July 9 as the start date for Stage three project.

Mathy Construction is scheduled to begin stage three on Monday, June 25. Stage three will consist of grinding off road surface just east of the 12th and Lincoln Avenue intersection then east to Marsden Park Road. The new Stage three detour route starting July 9 will affect Hwy 18 east bound traffic. The detour will direct traffic to U. S Hwy 61 South to Cty Hwy E and Cty Hwy F and back to US Hwy 18. Local traffic will be able to use side streets to access business and residential areas on Fennimore's east side. The stage three road construction and detour is expected to last about 2 ½ weeks.

All construction crews will be off between July 3 and July 8. However the Stage three detour will begin as early as June 23 and will remain closed until the project is completed. Shortly after July 9 there will be flag persons directing traffic at the junctions of 12th and Lincoln Avenue. There will be some temporary congestion at this junction as the crew ties in the new underground storm sewer.

The next public meeting called by WisDOT project engineer Jeremy Krachey will be held Monday June 18 (note date change). The meeting will be held at the Fennimore Memorial building 860 Lincoln Avenue starting at 5 p.m. This meeting is open to the public and especially those residents and businesses affected by the current portion of road construction. Krachey is available at the WisDOT field office located at 1030 Lincoln Avenue or call 608-822-3992.
