Stage two construction work on US 61 from 12th street to the south City limits is expected to be complete by the end this week. If all goes as planned the roadway from 12th Street to the south city limits will be open to traffic sometime Friday, June 22. The only exception will be the final lift of asphalt on 16th Street. Only residents living adjacent to the 16th Street road work is allowed in this area until final pavement is completed by early July.
Construction work taking place this week will be completion of sod and seeding, sweeping of streets, painting of center lines. Also this week stop signs at Washington Street and 10th Street will be switched. The change will have east and west bound traffic stop and is being installed ahead of the start of stage four. There will also be a 3-way stop sign installed at the junction of 12th and Washington Street. Keep in mind the Washington Street detour is not scheduled to begin until the last part of July.
Thanks to the cooperation all construction companies involved, area residents and great weather the project is ahead of schedule by approximately two weeks. The WI DOT will be switching US 18 east bound traffic over to the stage three detour on Friday, June 22. The stage three detour will route Hwy 18 eastbound traffic south at the junctions of 12th Street and Lincoln Avenue. The detour continues to Cty Hwy E where traffic will be taken through Stitzer to Cty Hwy F back to U.S. Hwy 18.
It is necessary to start the detour June 22 so construction crews can do prep work prior to Monday, June 25 when Mathy Construction is scheduled to begin grinding off road surface just east of the 12th and Lincoln Avenue intersection then east to Marsden Park Road. Local traffic will be able to use side streets to access business and residential areas on Fennimore's east side. The stage three road construction and detour is expected to last about three weeks. Area residents living along the stage three construction areas are asked to continue their regular procedure for setting out garbage.
The week of June 25 milling of pavement will begin on 12th Street between Lincoln and Marsden Park Road. Also that week some milling will be done on portions of Washington Street in preparation for the stage four detours. Unless you reside on Washington Street you may want to avoid travel in this area until new surface is installed the week of July 9.
Also the week of June 25 there will be flag persons directing traffic at the junctions of 12th and Lincoln Avenue to allow the new underground storm sewer to hook up with existing lines on Main Street. There will be some temporary congestion at this junction; your cooperation will help keep construction work on schedule.
The next public meeting called by WisDOT project engineer Jeremy Krachey will be held Monday June 18 (note date change). The meeting will be held at the Fennimore Memorial building 860 Lincoln Avenue starting at 5 p.m. This meeting is open to the public and especially those residents and businesses affected by the current portion of road construction. Krachey is available at the WisDOT field office located at 1030 Lincoln Avenue or call 608-822-3992.
