Blue Ribbon -- Lincoln Avenue 2007 Street Project
Construction Update

June 25, 2007

Submitted by Linda Parrish, Promotions Coordinator, 608-822-3599, Toll Free 800-822-1131

Stage two construction work on US 61 from 12th street to the south City limits is completed and the road is open to the public. The only exception will be the final lift of asphalt on 16th Street. Only residents living adjacent to the 16th Street road work are allowed in this area until final pavement is completed by early July.

It was reported last week that residents and business owners did not need to water new sod and seeding on their property. Our latest information indicates the landscapers will water the first 10 days only and then it is the responsibility of the landowner to water these areas. WisDOT personnel hand-delivered detailed information last week to landowners with instructions on maintenance of the newly landscaped areas. Information is also posted on the bulletin board at the Fennimore Memorial building.

Thanks to the cooperation of all construction companies involved, area residents and great weather, Fennimore's road construction is ahead of schedule by approximately two weeks. The WisDOT stage three detour went into affect on June 22. Stage three affects 12th Street between Lincoln Avenue up to Marsden Park Road. Marsden Park Road will be open to local traffic. Large trucks and semi traffic must use the stage three detour which will route Hwy 18 eastbound traffic south at the junctions of 12th Street and Lincoln Avenue. The detour continues to Cty Hwy E where traffic will be taken through Stitzer to Cty Hwy F back to U.S. Hwy 18. Westbound Hwy 18 traffic will be routed at the intersection of Cty Hwy F through Stitzer on Cty Hwy E to Hwy 61 and back to Fennimore.

There has been confusion over use of Marsden Park Road for local use to businesses and places of employment. It is very important to keep in mind the safety of residents and to obey stop signs and speed limits. City workers have trimmed trees in efforts to keep traffic signs within sight. Large truck and semi traffic must use the detour route. If traffic does not cooperate, the WisDOT and City Police may need to shut down Marsden Park entirely. Everyone's cooperation is encouraged.

Mathy Construction is in the process of grinding off road surface just east of the 12th and Lincoln Avenue intersection then east to Marsden Park Road. Local traffic will be able to use side streets to access business and residential areas on Fennimore's east side. As new pavement is put down there may be times when a flag crew is directing traffic at 12th Street and Marsden Park Road. The stage three road construction and detour is expected to last about three weeks. Area residents living along the stage three construction areas are asked to continue their regular procedure for setting out garbage. In preparation for the stage four detour a 3-way stop sign has been installed at the junction of 12th and Washington Street. The stop sign at Washington and 10th has also been changed with east and west bound traffic having to make a stop.

Some milling has been done on portions of Washington Street in preparation for the stage four detours. Unless you reside on Washington Street you may want to avoid travel in this area until new surface is installed the week of July 9. Keep in mind the stage four is not expected to begin until the fourth week of July. The Washington Street detour will not take affect until that time.

All construction crews will be off between July 3 and July 8. However the Stage three detours will be in place and will remain closed until the project is completed. The next public meeting is scheduled to be held Monday, July 23 at 5 p.m. at the Fennimore Memorial building. All businesses and residents living between 12th and 4th Street who will be affected by the stage four construction project are encouraged to attend.
