Construction Work - Week of August 20

Sidewalks - Back or side door access is recommended to most businesses at this time.

  • Recent rain has brought road construction to a stand still.
  • A-1 Excavating will continue to pump water to dry out construction areas.
  • As soon as weather permits
    • A-1 Excavating will move around to areas which allow them to keep the crew working. There is a good possibility sidewalks in the 1000 and 1100 blocks may be removed later this week. In this case A-1 will replace sidewalk with gravel as soon as possible. If you question access to businesses it would be wise to call ahead to verify access.
      • Matt Olson /A-1 Excavating will contact businesses in the 1000 and 1100 and block prior to removal of sidewalk.
      • Hartig Pharmacy customers are encouraged to call 608-822-3601 for access information. There may be a few hours when access is not available. Hartig will make home delivery on Tuesday and Thursday to customers who are elderly or disabled. Mail order is also an option. Please call Hartig's for details.
    • A-1 Excavating will continue to work on underground sanitary, water and storm sewer from 6th to 4th Street.
    • A-1 Excavating grading crew will continue moving to the north putting the base in place.
  • Gravel is now in place at the 11th Street intersection and may be used to cross Lincoln Avenue. 11th Street will not be paved until sometime in September.
  • Sometime soon Hwy 61 traffic coming from the north will not be allowed to turn east for approximately three days. Access to businesses on the east side will need to come from Jefferson Street. Speedy Mart and ReMax customers will have access from 4th Street only.
  • When underground utilities are hooked up at the junctions of 4th and Lincoln Avenue there will be a flag crew with one lane traffic for at period of time. For a short period of time the 4th and Lincoln intersection will be closed entirely. During this time traffic should use Second Street to get to detour route.
  • Public parking areas
  • St. Mary's Parking lot at Jefferson and 9th Street
  • Fennimore Elementary School parking lot next to H & N Plumbing and Heating (until August 28, 2007)
  • North side of the Fennimore Fire and Rescue Building - parking will not be allowed near the Fire-Rescue Building. Absolutely NO parking on the East or South Side of Fire-Rescue Building
  • Business owners and their employees are asked to leave any side street parking and Madison Street open for customers.
  • Some businesses will have "customer only" parking behind their business place, we ask you to please observe the signs.
  • It is the business responsibility to install "Customer Only" parking signs.

Signage
Blue Ribbon sign committee has installed bright green signs directing customers to Lincoln Avenue business locations. Please contact committee chair, Steve Lendosky if you have questions concerning signs (608-822-6111).

Stage Four Detour
12th and Washington Street will serve as the official detour route for all traffic during stage four of the road construction. The public should note this detour runs through a residential area. Keep in mind the speed limit for the detour route is 25 mph. Residents must keep in mind street side parking will not be allowed along the 12th and Washington Street detour route; residents must park in their driveway or yard.

Madison Street Traffic Concern
Madison Street continues to have heavy traffic. The City of Fennimore, Police Department and Fennimore School District are concerned about safety of children once school begins September 4, 2007.

At the Aug. 16 public road construction meeting concerned citizens suggested the City change Madison Street parking to east side parking only. Input from the public is encouraged by responding to promo@fennimore.com or dpw@fennimore.com by August 22. Madison Street parking will be an agenda item at the Aug 27 City Council meeting which begins at 7 p.m.

Public Road Construction Meeting
The next public meeting will be held Thursday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fennimore Memorial building.

Note: the report is our best estimation and can be affected by weather or other items beyond our control.
