Blue Ribbon - Lincoln Avenue 2007 Street Project
|
In 2002 Mayor Richard Rogers and then Chamber President Steve Lendosky formed a special committee known as the "Blue Ribbon - Lincoln Avenue Committee". Since that time Mayor Rogers and Steve Lendosky have served as the co-chairs of what is referred to as the core committee. There are an additional five sub-committees each of which each has a certain mission to accomplish. Each sub-committee meets on their own at a time and location which is most convenient to committee members. A representative from each committee then attends the monthly core committee meeting and shares their committee's progress. The core committee meets the third Tuesday of each month at noon at the City Council room. Any business or resident who has questions or concerns are welcome to talk to Mayor Rogers or S. Lendosky. The next core committee meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan 17 at noon in the City Council room. With Fennimore's Lincoln Avenue road construction project just a little more than a year away the committee has asked me to bring everyone up to date on the progress of the committees. Karla Witzig and Gil Pierick serve as chairpersons and they have many plans in place to help build funds for assistance to business, signage and promotional efforts. The first fundraiser is a charity Texas Hold 'EM Poker Tournament that will be held on Saturday, Feb 11, 2006. Steve Lendosky is coordinating the event; the tournament is open to everyone 18 years and older. There is no fee for entry; however your consideration of donating to this worthy cause is encouraged. More than 20 businesses have signed on to support this project with advertising on poker chips. A raffle of poker-related items will also be held the day of the tournament. A sign-up sheet is available at the Promotions Coordinator's office. Since this is a charitable event there will not be any professional dealers. S. Lendosky is currently recruiting volunteers to assist as dealers, set up, clean-up and with the food stand. For more information or details contact Steve Lendosky at 822-6111 or mailto:steve@brechlerinsurance.com Karla Witzig also reported a group of individuals is also working on a Cheese and Wine Tasting activity to be held in early spring. I will share this date as soon as plans are finalized. A third fundraiser will be offered through Fennimore Hardees, this will run during April, May and June. Present a special coupon when making a combo purchase and Hardees will donate $1 per purchase. Once calculated Hardees will then make one donation to the Blue Ribbon Committee. It is the goal of the fundraising committee to have some 'good sized fundraisers" rather than many small fundraisers. If you have an idea for the committee to consider and or are willing to serve on fundraising project(s) please contact Karla Witzig at 822-6100. The goal of the committee is to raise $50,000 before the road project begins. MEETINGS |
